BSI verification for Tunbridge Wells Borough Council
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is pleased to announce that it has successfully achieved Greenhouse Gas Requirements (ISO 14064‑1) verification for its 2024/2025 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Report, following a comprehensive series of verifications carried out by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
This verification provides independent recognition that the council's emissions calculations are materially correct, transparent, and a fair representation of the organisation's carbon footprint. The report achieved reasonable assurance to 5% materiality; the highest level of assurance BSI provides.
In simple terms, this means BSI is confident the council's emissions reporting is at minimum 95% accurate.
ISO 14064‑1 verification marks an important milestone in the council's sustainability journey. With a validated baseline and strengthened reporting processes, the council is now well‑positioned to refine its emissions reduction pathway and continue progressing towards its climate commitments.
The council's verified emissions for 2024/25 totalled 8,215.7 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (tCO₂e). This is equivalent to 2% of the Borough's total emissions.
Simon Healey, EMEA System Certification and ISA Director at BSI said
"We are pleased to have verified Tunbridge Wells Borough Council's 2024/25 greenhouse gas emissions report in accordance with ISO 14064-1. Achieving reasonable assurance to a 5% materiality threshold reflects a high standard of accuracy, transparency, and robustness in the council's reporting processes. This provides confidence that the data presents a fair and reliable representation of its carbon footprint."
Henry Saunders, Sustainability Manager at TWBC said
