TWBC Climate Action Fund

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has allocated funding for a Local Climate Action Fund to deliver a programme of climate action grants throughout the 2026/27 financial year.

The funding is supporting climate action by encouraging projects that advance green technology, improve energy efficiency, and contribute to local sustainability goals, aligning economic growth with environmental responsibility.

Schools Climate Action Grant

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is pleased to launch the first round of our Schools Climate Action Grant. The scheme has allocated £10,000 to distribute between local schools across Tunbridge Wells Borough.

This purpose of the Schools Climate Action Grant is to provide local school with dedicated funding to support them on their sustainability journey.

Schools are eligible to up to £2,500 of grant funding, to be spent only on decarbonisation interventions such as:

  • Allotment/green house
  • Tree planting/grounds regeneration
  • Solar panels
  • EV charge points
  • LED lights
  • Outdoor space/building improvements

Deadline for applications if 22nd May 2026.

Successful applicants would have until January 2027 to deliver their project.

Business Climate Action Grant

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council will be launching the third round of our Business Climate Action Grant on Monday 25th May 2026. The scheme has allocated £20,000 to distribute between local businesses across Tunbridge Wells Borough.

This purpose of the Business Climate Action Grant is to provide local businesses with dedicated funding to support them on their decarbonisation journey.

Businesses are eligible to up to £2,500 of grant funding, to be spent only on decarbonisation interventions such as:

  • LED installation
  • Solar PV installation
  • Insulation installation
  • Replacement of gas heating and cooking appliances
  • Bespoke energy efficiency improvement solutions
  • Double glazing
  • Water saving measures
  • Emissions reporting services
  • Decarbonisation feasibility studies
  • Decarbonisation plan development
  • EV charge point installation
  • EV purchase (only for business purposes e.g. taxi or staff pool vehicle)
  • Replacement of fossil fuel powered tools.

Community Climate Action Grant

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council will be launching the second round of our Community Climate Action Grant on Monday 8th June 2026. The scheme has allocated £15,000 to distribute across local community groups within Tunbridge Wells Borough.

The purpose of the Community Climate Action Grant is to support local community groups, organisations and non-profits to deliver small scale climate action projects, whilst positively engaging with residents around local climate action.

Examples of such projects could include: tree planting, micro forest planting, wildflower meadow creation, rain garden creation, organising litter picks/purchasing better equipment, expand or start a repair cafe, hold a sewing club, open a library of things, open a community garden, open a community fridge, purchase a community composter, organise a local fair, organise local training (carbon literacy).

All projects must at a minimum engage communities on the environment and achieve at least one of following:

  • Encourages sustainable behaviour
  • Improve local understanding of climate change and sustainability
  • Reduces pollution
  • Reduces emissions (either individually or borough wide)
  • Improves air quality
  • Improves biodiversity
  • Improves local climate adaptation

The idea is that this grant would help to spark and support locally-led climate action, providing small scale funding to help local sustainable initiatives get off the ground or grow.

The maximum grant value per application is £1,000.
