TWBC Climate Action Fund

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has allocated funding for a Local Climate Action Fund to deliver a programme of climate action grants.

The funding is supporting climate action by encouraging projects that advance green technology, improve energy efficiency, and contribute to local sustainability goals, aligning economic growth with environmental responsibility.

Since launching in the 24/25 financial year TWBC have funded 55 projects, providing just over £93,000 to businesses, community groups, and schools across the borough.

The next round of funding will be opened as of Spring 2027.

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council launched the first round of the Schools Climate Action Grant in summer 2026. The purpose of the Schools Climate Action Grant is to provide local school with dedicated funding to support them on their sustainability journey.

The purpose of the Business Climate Action Grant is to provide local businesses with dedicated funding to support them on their decarbonisation journey.

Since launching in 24/25 completed projects have included:

• LED installation
• Solar PV installation
• Decarbonisation plan development
• EV charge point installation
• Replacement of fossil fuel powered tools.

The purpose of the Community Climate Action Grant is to support local community groups, organisations and non-profits to deliver small scale climate action projects, whilst positively engaging with residents around local climate action.

Examples of such projects have included: tree planting, micro forest planting, wildflower meadow creation, organising litter picks/purchasing better equipment, expand or start a repair cafe, open a community garden, open a community fridge, purchase a community composter, organise a local fair.

The idea is that this grant would help to spark and support locally-led climate action, providing small scale funding to help local sustainable initiatives get off the ground or grow.
