An update on the Councils Corporate Carbon Reduction Plan: Year 1 Progress 2021/22 and Year 2 Action Plan 2022/23 can be found here.
The Corporate Carbon Descent Plan is a key strategic policy document for the Council and sets out the ambition for the Council on how it can reach its 2030 carbon neutral target for its own operation and services.
The actions and projects proposed each year will evolve and change each year as progress is made. The aim of the year 1 action plan was to set the scene and initiate various activities specifically around behaviour change, service provision and building assessments to identify where significant improvements could be made to reducing the Council’s own carbon emissions.
The year 2 action plan has now been agreed by Cabinet and is being progressed by the Council and includes the development of a borough wide climate strategy. Further information on the development of a draft strategy and public consultation will soon become available.
In the meantime, the Council has also assessed its own carbon footprint up to 2021/22.
The Council’s total carbon emissions tonnes of carbon (tCO2e) per year.
- 2018/19 came to 4,724 tCO2e
- 2021/22 came to 3,724 tCO2e
A detailed overview of the Greenhouse Gas report comparison 2018/19 to 2021/22 can be found here.
As greenhouse gas emissions reporting has become more accurate it has enabled more of the associated emissions from our operations and services to be accounted for. Therefore, to ensure like for like comparison can be made the original 2018-19 data has also been updated. As a result, the carbon footprint for 18-19 has increased to 4,724 tCO2e from 3,507 tCO2e.
There has been an overall reduction in carbon emissions of 1,000 tCO2e from 2018-19 to 2021-22.
